Call for applications for NAS Introduction and Part I courses in Zadar, Croatia

From 15. – 18. October 2012 International centre for underwater archaeology in Zadar (ICUA) is organizing Nautical Archaeological Society (NAS) Underwater archaeology courses. During four days two courses will be organized: NAS Introduction to Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology and NAS Part I Certificate in Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology. Introduction to foreshore and underwater archaeology course will consist of theoretical lectures - Site types and dating methods, Underwater finds, 2D survey and practical session - drawing on land and underwater. Part I certificate in foreshore and underwater archaeology course will consist of theoretical lectures - Carrying out an archaeological project, Locating and exploring a site, Project safety and logistics, 3D survey, Dealing with finds, Post field activity and practical sessions - getting to know a site and recording a site. Theoretical part will be held in the premises of the International centre for underwater archaeology. Practical sessions will be held in the archaeological site near Zadar.

Requirements for the course: OWD, CMAS * or equivalent, medical certificate ensuring fitness for diving, diving insurance (recommended). The price of the courses is 1000 kuna (130 euro). Diving equipment should be brought by participants or it can be rented in local diving club (expenses not covered by organizers). Organizers are covering the costs of renting and filling the diving tanks. Participants should arrange transportation to Zadar and back by themselves on their own expense. Accommodation during the course will be arranged by the organizers in ICUA dormitories (limited spaces).
