In 2016 ICUA Zadar will continue to organize Nautical Archaeological Society (NAS) courses. NAS courses aim to provide not just an introduction to the underwater archaeology, but also offer people a chance to build their skills and experience, allowing them to take part in projects and fieldwork around the world and perhaps to run their own projects.

Call for applications: Introductory Courses on Conservation and Restoration of Archaeological Finds from Underwater Environments, 2015

1. Introduction

The International Centre for Underwater Archaeology (ICUA) is organizing two courses on the restoration and conservation of underwater archaeological finds, to be held in Zadar, Croatia during the 16 – 27 November and 30 November – 11 December, 2015 periods. The courses are organized with the support of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (UNESCO Venice Office), within the framework of the annual contribution by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy to the UNESCO Venice Office.

Call for Applications: Advanced Underwater Archaeology Course 2015

1.  Introduction

The International Centre for Underwater Archaeology (ICUA), category 2 centre under the auspices of UNESCO, in Zadar, is launching its fourth Advanced Underwater Archaeology Course. It will last 2 weeks and will take place in the Pula area, Croatia, from 14 to 26 September 2015.

The course will consist of theoretical and practical (hands on) instruction in techniques of underwater archaeological excavation, recording, data processing and the use of new technologies in underwater documentation. Archaeologists from the ICUA and guest lecturers will conduct theoretical lessons, supplemented by optional courses in speciality diving, in line with the requirements of the SSI or PADI system. Practical instruction will take place in the context of underwater archaeological surveys of ancient shipwrecks in the area surrounding Pula and will teach participants what it means to be part of an underwater archaeological excavation team.

Call for Applications: Basic Underwater Archaeology Course 2015

1.    Introduction

The International Centre for Underwater Archaeology Zadar (ICUA) is organizing a 2-week basic training course on underwater archaeology, due to take place in Zadar, Croatia, on 18th – 29th May 2015.

The course will consist of theoretical and practical (hands on) instruction in the basic techniques of underwater archaeological excavation. Archaeologists from ICUA, Han-Vrana and the University of Zadar will conduct theoretical lessons, complemented by courses in specialty diving according to the requirements of the SSI / PADI system. Practical instruction will take place in the frame of archaeological researches in the Pakoštane, Zadar environs, in order to allow the participants acquire the best possible knowledge of basic research techniques.

Call for Application: Scientific Diving Course, Zadar, Spring 2015

Coordination of Scientific Divers of Croatia, International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar and Zadar SUB are organising the Scientific Diving Course according to the ESDP and AUSS standards in spring 2015. The course shall take place from March 5th to April 16th in Zadar Croatia. More information can be found in accompanying documents.

The ICUA Team will conduct NAS courses during 2015 in Veštar bay close to Rovinj. Theoretical lectures will be conducted at the diving club The Old Diver in Campsite Veštar close to Rovinj, and practical exercises will be conducted in the Veštar bay.

Call for applications: Underwater Archaeological Finds Conservation and Restoration Courses, winter 2013/2014

The International Centre for Underwater Archaeology (ICUA) is once again organising courses in the restoration and conservation of underwater archaeological finds – to be held in Zadar, Croatia in the period from 1 November 2013 to 1 April 2014. This international course is targeted to the practical and theoretical training of candidates for independent work in the restoration and conservation of underwater archaeological finds. The courses will consist of practical work under the supervision of a mentor at the workshops of the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology (ICUA) in Zadar. Candidates will have the opportunity to select work on the various materials treated at the three main workshops that deal with metal, ceramic and glass, and organic finds. Training will be provided by ICUA Zadar staff, pursuant to the course programme manual and the standards valid for the ICUA/UNESCO advanced course staged in 2011. Candidates can choose from a number of modules. We are planning a one-month Advanced Course that can be staged in one of the three main workshops, or a two-week Introductory Course that will involve work in all three workshops. At the end of the course candidates will take an exam on the theoretical and practical segments, after which they will be entitled to a certificate confirming that they have passed our Centre's course for specialised conservators/restorers of underwater archaeological finds.
