Croatian-Polish cooperation on underwater research in Nin

In the period from October 14th to 18th, the first campaign of underwater archaeological exploration of the Nin area was conducted. MCPA Zadar's underwater archaeologists conducted this research in cooperation with Polish colleagues from the University of Nicolaus Copernicus from Toruń. The students of the University of Toruń are: Filip Nalaksowski, Alicja Bieniek, Mciej Rzad, Kamila Kociszewska, Jan Jarosz, Michal Gliszczynski, and they were led by Professor Ph.D. Andrzej Pydyn and Pawel Stencel of the newly founded Center for Underwater Archeology in Torun.


Continuing exploration of ancient harbor Barbir in Sukosan and conducting of theBasic underwater archeology course

During 2019, underwater excavation and documentation of the ancient port of Barbir in Sukošan continued.The explorations resulted in the completion of the excavations of Trench 1 and 2, within which a cross section of the structure of the ancient pier was obtained. During this sessson, new excavations within the port itself were initiated.


The first underwater archeology field school in Slovakia

As part of the international cooperation and education programme, from 23rd to 27th September 2019, the staff of the International Center for Underwater Archeology in Zadar, in cooperation with the Department of Classical Archeology, University of Trnava (Slovakia) has organized underwater Archaeology field school.


High-level International Conference on the protection of underwater cultural heritage held in Brest; Meetings held in Paris in the framework of the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage

The high-level international conference on the protection of underwater cultural heritage was held in Brest, in the Grand Amphitheatre des Ateliers des Capucins, from 17 to 19 June 2019. It was organized by the French Government together with UNESCO.
The Conference was focused on issues of ratification and implementation of the 2001 Convention, protection of underwater archaeology, underwater robot technologies, marine law as well as challenges related to sustainable tourism and other topics.


International conference ‘’Conservation and restoration in underwater archaeology: experiences, methods and new discoveries’’ – Extended paper and poster submission deadline

The paper and poster submission deadline for the international conference ‘’Conservation and restoration in underwater archaeology: experiences, methods and new discoveries’’   has been extended to 21st June 2019.


An exhibition of research at Piruzi opened in Pula

On Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the C8 Gallery of the Pula's Archaeological Museum of Istria, the exhibition "Sunken Roman ship on the rocks of Piruzi near Rovinj" was opened.
